A drama group performed a classic before hundreds of Maldon residents.
The Maldon Drama Group's recreation of George Orwell's 1984 was played at the town hall in Market Hill.
Around 200 people turned out for the event, which was described as a "powerful" and "fascinating" performance of the story.
Carey Brown, a member of the cast said: "The performances of all group members were at a very high level, particularly those of the principles, Paul Macklin as Winston and Heather Lucas, who played Julia.
"As a new director to the group, Paul Warner pulled together a quality production."
The group is already planning its next production of Hope Flowers alongside the Maldon Orchestra and Essex Police Choir.
The production will commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.
The tickets for the event at Plume School in Fambridge Road on November 10 have now sold ou,t but a waiting list for returns has been compiled.
