A school has welcomed a Premier League hockey player to coach its students.

Jo Westwood has joined Felsted School to coach across the prep and senior schools.

Miss Westwood has attended two commonwealth games and has 90 senior Wales caps to her name.

During her time at Felsted, she intends to develop the hockey programme with coaching principles through all years; improving the transition between seven-a-side games at Felsted Prep, to 11-a-side at the senior school.

Miss Westwood said: "I have enjoyed coaching my first month at Felsted.

“There have been a number of different challenges working with the various groups but with specific skill sessions and one to one coaching, all age groups are showing real improvement.”

Since joining Felsted, Miss Westwood has already kicked off the domestic season playing for Holcombe Ladies 1st XI in the Investec Premier League and has represented Wales in a test match against Scotland.

This year she has also been involved with the GB Development training and played with them against Holland under 21s last month.

1st XI captain Amber Aitken said: "We absolutely love having Jo with us.

“She is always bringing new drills and ideas to training that have helped our team to improve.

“It is great that she is still playing at the top level herself, and so she has made our training really fun and effective."

Hockey is already a big part of Felsted School, with three national finalist teams in 2018, including a national plate win for the under 13 boys as well as five teams winning the county title.
