A POST office could be transformed into an “education and training centre” where people can learn language, and learn about culture.

The Post Office, on Corringham Road, Stanford-le-Hope is relocating in January – potentially leaving the building out of use.

But now, there’s been an application from Mashuk Ali of Victoria Road, Stanford-le-Hope, for a change of use.

It states the the new centre would be used by people “who need a place where they can learn the English language and culture alongside maintaining their own culture and roots and teach their kids”.

The application read: “The idea of the education and training centre is to provide a facility for local members of the community to meet and further educate themselves. Not only for the older generation, but for the youth also. This facility provides us with a platform that will allow us to do this. We can expect around 15 to 20 people visiting on the daily basis, however these will not all be at once and most likely be spread out through the day.

“There will also only be one or two members of staff present throughout the entire opening hours of the day.

“There will not be a constant footfall of people nor will there be cars parked at the facility or the main road throughout the whole day. “

The report adds that the current owner has given consent to apply for the change of use.

The main focus of the classes would be literature and language, cultural learning, health and safety, life skills, and business and finance.
