A driver who threw the remains of a chicken leg from a car has been fined £440.

Maldon District Council has prosecuted two drivers who dropped litter and then ignored initial £100 penalty notices.

Matthey Wright, of The Withy Windle, South Woodham Ferrers, was prosecuted for throwing the piece of chicken out of his car in Market Hill on April 21.

The case was proved in his absence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on September 13.

He was fined £440 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £44 and costs of £250.

Abbey Tabb, of Spital Road, Maldon, was prosecuted for dropping cigarette litter in Heybridge Approach on April 20.

The case was also proved in her absence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on September 13.

She was fined £440 and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £44 and costs of £250.

Bob Boyce, chairman of Maldon District Council’s community services committee, said: “Littering is illegal and unsightly, and can cause harm to people, wildlife, and our waterways.

“The district council will have no hesitation in continuing to prosecute offenders.”
