The first stage of public consultation for the proposed Tilbury Energy Centre development on the former Tilbury coal-fired power station site has come to an end.

As part of the consultation three events were held at Tilbury Hub, Gravesend Old Town Hall and West Tilbury Village Hall.

The RWE project team had the opportunity to talk to local residents about the proposals and answer some questions people had.

In addition, the consultation materials were added to the website to ensure everyone had the opportunity to comment on the outline development.

Overall the consultation was well received with questions mainly centring on local employment and community benefits, environmental considerations, potential noise of a gas fired power station, height and visual aspect of buildings.

The team have started to respond to all queries, comments and questions and these will form part of our consultation report that will be submitted alongside the planning application to the Planning Inspectorate.

Severine Poncelet, Tilbury Energy Centre Project Manager said: “We would like to thank everyone who attended the events and who took the time to respond to our Energy Centre proposals.

"We will now review all these comments in order to inform our planning application. We are at an exciting part of our project and want to work with local communities and stakeholders to help shape a sustainable development that will help support energy security for the UK in the future.”

Formal consultation is expected to take place in Autumn, more information regarding events and information will be issued closer to the date.
