Grays Convent High School has been praised by the education watchdog after its latest inspection.

Grays Convent, which is one of five secondary schools in Grays and the only one which is funded through voluntary aid and teaches only girls, received a grade of 'Good' following an inspection last month.

Kim Pigram and Vanessa Love, both Ofsted inspectors, visited the Roman Catholic school on November 14 for the first time in four years to assess the school's quality.

Shortly less than a month later, the school received a letter from Pigram informing them they had received the 'Good' grade.

In the letter, Pigram praises the headteacher, Penny Johnson, who had her first Ofsted inspection in that role.

She wrote: "The leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the previous inspection.

"Since your appointment as headteacher in April 2014, you have worked relentlessly to establish high expectations among staff and pupils.

"You lead the school by setting the highest example, insisting on complete integrity in the work of your staff and leaders.

"Your dedicated and skilled governing body work alongside you diligently to continue to raise standards and expectations in the school and community.

"Most pupils and parents are glowing in their praise for the school.

"As one pupil told inspectors, ‘The whole school is like a family.’

The school received the same grade in their previous inspection back in June 2013.

'Good' is the second best grade of four that a school can achieve in an Ofsted report. It is one grade below 'Outstanding'.
