A teenager has been sentenced to two years and six months in youth detention for stabbing a man who refused to hand over his bike.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, approached the victim in High Street, Grays, on November 16 last year.
When the 18-year-old refused to get off his bike, he was stabbed in the leg, causing a minor cut. He managed to ride home and a short time later went out again to try and find the suspect.
During a struggle, he was stabbed in the chest and back. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The suspect, from Dagenham, was charged with GBH and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
He admitted GBH when he appeared at Basildon Crown Court on April 19. The judge ordered the second charge to lie on file.
The boy was sentenced on Friday May 19.
