THIS week we speak to Doris Odiaka, owner of the party shop, called Lovely Colours, in Orsett Road, Grays.

Q: What do you love about Thurrock?

A: There is a nice community spirit in the borough. People are very friendly and very willing to help.

Q: What has kept you here?

A: We have built business relationships in the area. It is peaceful – I have been in the borough for 10 years now and I have not had any problems, fears or worries.

Q: How do you see the future for your business in the borough?

A: I am very optimistic about the future. We have the products to offer and believe we can provide the best quality of service to our customers.

Q: How do you think other parts of Essex see Thurrock?

A: I think they see Thurrock as an area that is evolving. It has come a long way in quite a short time. So much has changed in the borough over the last couple of years.

Q: What advice would you give to people wanting to set up their own business in the borough?

A: Go for it! However, do some research. Be patient – it doesn’t all happen in a day.

Q: What made you start your business here?

A: I had to find the right location for the business. I had wanted to open a shop for quite a while, so finding the facilities to suit my needs and those of my clients was key.

Q: What community involvement does the business have?

A: We will always endeavour to do our bit for the community in any way possible. To anyone that walks through our shop door, we guarantee to offer you the best quality of customer service.

Q: What is your favourite bit about the Gazette?

A: I enjoy reading the Gazette. It gives you a greater insight into what it going on in the community. It is a great way to communicate with businesses and people alike.
