STUDENTS from a school recently hosted DJ Simon Mayo as he talked about his new book Itch.
Mayo, who hosts shows on BBC Radio Two, was invited to The William Edwards School by its science department to discuss the book which features a 14-year-old, whose hobby is element collecting, as part of a new science and literacy cross-curricular initiative.
The DJ spoke to the students about his love of science, demonstrated experiments and read an extract from his book before answering questions from 240 year seven students.
The project has been so successful that the science department hope to use Mayo’s second book, Itch Rocks, for a similar project next year.
While he was in school, Mayo also officially opened the new school radio station.
It’s hoped the station will bring together pupils, parents and the local community, and maybe even gather an international audience.
