I WHOLE-HEARTEDLY agree with Ray Abbott (Vote must be earned, Gazette Opinion, September 27).

Last year and this year I wrote to councillors about persistent fly-tipping problems in a nearby road.

This was anything from piles of black rubbish, bags, sofas, garden furniture, lumps of concrete and asbestos.

At one point the council told me it didn’t cover this road and it didn’t know who owned the land where it was dumped – hence why I contacted the councillors.

The first councillor made a couple of attempts to get it cleared, not all of it, then seemed to give up and then, despite my letters, ignored me. The second tried and even rang me. She even visited the site but also gave up.

I finally contacted the third who, like the first, made no personal contact.

Large items appear to have been cleared but, as for general rubbish, that still remains. It is an eyesore.

If this is an example of them doing (or not doing!) one aspect of the job they are voted in to do, I don’t think they deserve or inspire votes.

I’m with you Ray!
