A bloodied Luke Evans is interrogated by the police in a new trailer for ITV drama The Party.
The Party is a five-part series based on Elizabeth Day’s thriller novel of the same name starring Evans as Martin Gilmour, a journalist shaped by his lifelong friendship with wealthy politician Ben Fitzmaurice (Tom Cullen).
The show moves between the shocking events of the party and the police investigation that follows, with flashbacks to Martin’s and Ben’s lives at school, university and during their London party days.
As the trailer opens, Evans is seen being led into a police interrogation room in a blood-soaked shirt.
An officer asks him: “Can you tell us what you were doing at Denby Hall, Martin? Where were you at the time of the shooting?”
In another clip, he is seen speaking with his old friend Ben, who asks: “Can’t we just forget all the nonsense of the past for one night?”
A man at the party then asks Evans’ character: “What happened between you and Ben at university, what went on?”
A clip of the men as teenage boys is shown as they stand on the side of the road while a body is carried away.
In a tense scene, Evans breaks down in tears and says: “My childhood was stolen from me.”
Cullen is then heard saying: “We are in this together, we always have been.”
Evans, who also executive produced the series, said: “Yes, I’m back on ITV in October with my new drama, The Party.
“It’s full of sex, betrayal, secrets, closeted love and some very, very bad behaviour, so naturally I felt right at home!”
The Party was written and created for ITV by award-winning showrunner Sarah Solemani, who also stars as Martin’s pregnant wife, Lucy.
Other members of the star-studded cast include Olivier winner Lindsay Duncan, Tony Award-winner Douglas Hodge, Riot Women star Joanna Scanlan, and A Woman Of Substance actress Lydia Leonard.
The Party will air on ITV and ITVX this October.
