A night at the proms - organ recital
An organ recital will be given on the Father Willis organ of St. Andrew’s, Halstead on Saturday the 7 of September 2019 at 7.30pm. The recitalist will be St. Andrew’s organist William Janssen.

The first half of the program is entirely dedicated to the Second Organ Symphonie by the great Charles Marie Widor in its 1872 first edition version. In the late 19th century this was Widor’s most popular work for organ (even more famous than the Fifth Symphonie with its famous Toccata). The second half follows the pattern of the famous ‘Last Night at the Proms’ and is a selection of music by Edward Elgar (Pomp and Circumstance March no. 1), Edwin Lemare’s Concert Fantasia (the organ equivalent of Henry Wood’s Sea Songs) and William Ketelbey.

The fine Father Willis organ at St. Andrew’s is the ideal organ for this kind of repertoire. Come and enjoy an evening of ‘prom’ organ music at St. Andrew’s.

There will be refreshments served in the interval.
