I know you loved my poems so here’s another for you .
THE FIRST YEAR X

The first year without you well what can I say
It destroyed us back then & still does to this day .

Nothing has got easier , give it time people say , but in fact it gets harder as I miss you more everyday .

365 days have past since that day that I saw you last , I still don’t get it it still doesn’t make sense , the pain stays with me it’s still so intense .

I try to stay focused & live my life everyday as I know if there’s a heaven you would want me this way . I try to make contact , I look up to the sky
I have a special star that’s the brightest up high . I ask it lots of questions but no answers come back , all I want to hear is “ I’m fine my nicnac .

So the first year without you has been hard & strained , I’ve cried so many tears & nothing is the same .

The mornings are darker without you here & the nights just get longer throughout the past year . I tell everyone about you & cant help but smile when I do , my chest puffed out proud when i speak about you .

Well dad if there’s a heaven & I hope that there is , I hope you can see me & an give me a kiss .
I pray you are happy cracking jokes like you did , telling your smithy stories with your smile so big .

I will continue my life , live through the pain as I’m sure deep inside I will see you again , but until that day comes don’t you ever forget that your nicnacnoo loves you with so much respect

Even a second without you around us all is a second too long. From the moment you were gone things have not been and never will be the same again. We all love you eternally Grandad. Abbie is having a baby girl, your first great granddaughter! I knew you would have sure she was having a girl and said with from day one. I love you so much and miss your massive smile. Its the American way x

I am so sorry for your loss. I got to know Dave through walking our dogs together in the gorge. I particularly remember when he bought his convertible having commented on my ‘midlife crisis’. I knew of the incident outside Tesco but had no idea it was Dave. The strange thing is only the other day my wife asked if I’d seen him recently. I assumed that, as his dog was quite old, she’d passed so he no longer needed to walk her. However, with hindsight, had that happened I’m sure he’d have phoned me. Rest assured Dave was a lovely bloke and will be greatly missed. J
