The Olympics has been a ratings success for the BBC
More than 11 million people watched swimmer Rebecca Adlington win bronze in the 800m freestyle.
Overnight figures show 11.3 million viewers saw her defeat to US teenager Katie Ledecky, but it was not the highest rating event on Friday night.
That was the women's 10,000m final, won by Ethiopia's Tirunesh Dibaba, which had a peak audience of 11.1 million with another 700,000 watching via the red button.
A total of 9.4 million saw Victoria Pendleton take gold in the keirin and 8.2 million watched the men's team pursuit gold medal.
The Games have been a huge ratings success for the BBC.
Figures released by the corporation show record numbers of people watching the coverage online with its website recording a peak audience of 8 million - above the previous record of 5.7 million.
More than 1.5 million people have downloaded the BBC's Olympics app for their phone and around 17 million people have used one of the 24 red button streams.
The website has seen 29 million requests for its interactive video streams with video of Bradley Wiggins' win being the single most popular - with 729,000 requests.
