Leading names in women's sport and the arts are among those to be honoured at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace today.

England and Arsenal Ladies forward Rachel Yankey will be present at the event when she will be handed an OBE for services to football, particularly the women's and youth games.

Yankey, who wears the number 11 shirt for club and country, has more than 100 international caps and is considered one of the national team's finest ever players.

She was a warded an MBE in 2005.

England women's rugby team captain Katy McLean will get an MBE for services to the sport.

McLean grew up in a rugby family and started playing at the age of five with a local club in South Shields.

She now has 69 caps for the national team.

Veteran ballerina and choreographer Gillian Lynne, whose credits include the hugely successful Cats and Phantom Of The Opera musicals, is being made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to dance and musical theatre.

She has had a huge influence on dance and musical theatre, helping to develop jazz dance in Britain.

Lynne has also directed more than 50 productions on the West End and Broadway, and been awarded two Olivier Awards .

Cinematographer Roger Deakins, famed for his work on some of the best-known films of the last 20 years, will be made a CBE at the ceremony.

His films have included The Shawshank Redemption, No Country For Old Men and James Bond blockbuster Skyfall.

Royal Marine Harry Robinson, of Taunton-based 40 Commando, is to receive the military cross.

He is being recognised for his courageous and life-saving actions following an attack on his troop by a rogue member of the Afghan National Army.

The ceremony is due to be conducted by the Princess Royal.
