TILBURY'S traumatic end to the season, which sees them play two tough matches in a desperate bid for Ryman Division One North survival, got more complicated today then they were fined £150 and deducted a point.

The sentence was handed out at a league meeting after the club admitted playing, albeit unknowingly, a player who was banned from football.

Craig Gilham had been signed from fellow Ryman League club Brentwood Town and played in a 1-1 home draw with Wivenhoe.

However, the club subsequently learned that the player had been suspended from football by Essex FA following a incident when he was playing for Olympican League club White Ensign. Tilbury say they, Brentwood and the player were unaware of the ban as the county FA had only notified White Ensign.

However, that defence cut little ice with the league's disciplinary panel who docked the Dockers the point they won against Wivenhoe.

Tilbury have been given 14 days to appeal, which means the league table cannot be adjusted until April 29, which is three days after the season has ended.

The deduction could be irrelevant if Tilbury fail to get points from either of their two remaining matches, against second-from-bottom Ilford at Tilbury on Saturday and away to mid-table Arlesey seven days later.
