Tilbury ripped apart as Ware hit seven
Ware 7, Tilbury 0
A STUNNING goals blitz saw high-flying Ryman Division One North Ware rip Tilbury apart in the second half.
There was little to foretell of what was to follow when Tilbury, despite missing prolific striker Kurt Smith who suffered a broken toe at Bury on Saturday, gave a good account of themselves in the first half, going in just one goal behind.
And they might even have got back on level terms in the opening minutes of the second half, being denied a penalty and then crashing a free-kick against the crossbar.
However, then the goals rush started and Ware hit six in 18 minutes.
Dockers gave a debut to Ajibola Alacubosun, signed from Wingate and Finchley, and the six foot plus midfielder certainly put himself about, getting through a lot of work in midfield.
Ware made a bright start to the match and took the lead after 13 minutes when Joe Stevens' effort found its way between Jon Whiteman and Brad Smart on the line.
Though they spent much of the first half under the cosh, Tilbury were not without an attacking threat and they had two good chances, both falling to Andre Humphreys.
For the first he was just off target with an overhead kick from Chris Stowe's corner and then a back-heel by Stowe set up an opportunity but he blazed over.
The second half saw Tilbury have good claims for a penalty in the opening minutes when Chris Brown was tripped. Visiting players and fans were adamant it was in the box but the referee spotted the ball just outside the area. Even then Tilbury nearly made the most of the opportunity but Chris Stowe's free kick crashed back off the bar.
Tilbury were very much in the game at that point but on 67 minutes the goals deluge began when Ryan Redford, a recent signing from Hertford, outpaced the visiting defence and poked the ball past the onrushing Richard Wray.
On 71 minutes John Frendo's shot was deflected into his own goal by Brown, though the Ware player claimed the honour.
A misplaced 73rd minute by Jay Taylor gave Redford the chance to make it four with a well-placed volley and two minutes later Frendo fired home an angled shot off the post.
Taylor, who had been booked in the first half, was a little lucky not to get a second caution when he committed a foul in the box in the 83rd minute but Frendo extracted due punishment by rifling home the penalty for his hat-trick.
With the Tilbury defence in disarray by now, Redford finished off the scoring on 85 minutes when he lobbed Wray, who had been let down by some abject play in front of him.
The only consolation for demoralised Dockers, who gave a debut to local youngster Reece Phillips when he came on as a sub, came with news that Brentwood claimed a 92nd winner from a former Docker, Jack Marsh, to record a 2-1 victory over Tilbury's relegation rivals Wivenhoe.
Tilbury: Richard Wray, Sam Groombridge, Jon Wightman, Bradley Smart, Jay Taylor, Danny O'Connor, Chris Brown, Jamie Gray (Tom Poole), Ajibola Alacubosun, Chris Stowe (Reece Phillips), Andre Humphreys, (Erkan Yusuf).
