Dockers come through East Anglian Cup battle

Tilbury 1, Hullbridge Sports 0

TILBURY had top scorer Kurt Smith to thank for their first win since November 13, as they put paid to plucky Essex Senior League side Hullbridge at Chadfields.

With the wind at their backs in the first half, Hullbridge took the game to their Ryman Division One North hosts and had much the better of the opening exchanges.

They struck the woodwork with Chris Brown's in-swinging 15th minute corner.Home stopper Paul Agu was kept on his toes as several more efforts whistled past his goal.

However, in the second half of the match, it was a completely different story. As Hullbridge became tired of running into the wind and rain, Tilbury began to dominate.

Ten minutes into the half, Smith fired home what proved to be the winner, with a low drive from 20 yards that skipped along the muddy surface.

Smith should have completed his hat-trick, missing two far easier chances as the half progressed. But twice, with only Lawrence Priddle to beat, he opted for power, first hitting the keeper and then blazing over the bar.

A more subtle, relaxed approach would have brought dividends, a lesson the young striker is sure to learn as he continues the impressive start to his career, which has now netted him 15 goals this season.

Hullbridge struggled manfully to get back into the game, and Agu was forced into a couple of nervous saves, fumbling the slippery ball.

But no one was on hand to provide the finishing touch for Sports, and it is Dockers who go on to travel to Burnham Ramblers in the next round.

Though this was something of an experimental team for manager John Lawrence, who gave striker Chris Stowe a 30 minute run-out and took the opportunity to look at prospects Kasey Scotter and Alex Perfect, he must have been pleased to see his side's determination to battle the elements as well as enthusiastic opposition.

Determination is a quality his players will need as they embark on a crucial Ryman Division One North week with tough trips to Potters Bar and Ilford ahead.

The only downside was an injury to Martyn Guest midway through only his second game after a six month lay-off, while yougnster Danny O'Connor also limped out of the action at half time.

Tilbury: Paul Agu, Gbenga Sonuga, Danny Smith, Kasey Scotter, Martyn Guest (Chris Lockwood 45), Nathan Philip, Andre Humphrey, Danny O'Connor (Matthew Knight 45), Kurt Smith, Chris Stowe (Joshua Coulson 30), Alex Perfect. Subs not used: Marcus Debuis, Luke Stanley.

so mr nemo who could do better with the budget and the players at tilbury ?

Only 5 wins yes but lots of points picked up with draws

so nemo go back under that stone you come out from and leave all at tilbury alone

There are so many people who like to have a dig at tilbury and long may you do it because we will find out who posts this crap on here sooner than most of you think

Also you dont have to be a member of mensa to see a pattern with posts on here from players and parents look at the team sheets and then see who was left out or subbed ETC so come on people lets us get out of this dogfight without posting so much rubbish on here

We all want to win for the team and ourself so keep your negitive thoughts to you and you only and dont rubbish no more

This is a plee from a player who is sick to the back teeth of it all

If you are a player then why don't you use a bit of common sense and shut up, and stop posting. Don't tell people you are sick of it cos the idiots will keep posting as they know they are getting at you.Anyone can post whatever they want, just bloody ignore it and don't continue posting as all you are doing is carrying it on.mmm perhaps thats what you really want to do.
