Dockers' flame doused by rampant Islanders

Canvey Island 5, Tilbury 0

IN contrast with much that has gone before, Dockers' 2008 ended on a lack-lustre note with a heavy defeat at near neighbours Canvey which decisively ended the visitors recent run of good results against their Thames rivals.

The home side suffered a blow when they lost keeper and former Docker Ricky Wiseman in the warm-up, but veteran Mel Capleton proved an able deputy, though in truth he was rarely tested by Tilbury.

Dockers had their own goalkeeping change, with Daniel Spendlove making his debut between the sticks, but he was soon picking the ball out of his net after Jay Curran opened the scoring on 11 minutes.

Tilbury just about hld their own in the first half but still ended it a second goal behind thanks to Clydie Roberts' goal three minutes before the break.

That set the scene for one of Tilbury's now famous comebacks, but for once it didn't happen and Canvey ran away with the match thanks to further goals from Curran (57) and Roberts (78) and a nap-completing fifth from Nicky Rugg on 90 minutes.

Fortunatley for Tilbury the sides below them failed to make up much ground, though bottom club Wivenhoe will draw a spark of hope from a 1-1 draw with high-fliers Sudbury. Ilford went down 3-1 at Redbridge.

Tilbury: Daniel Spendlove, Gbenga Sonuga, Luke Stanley, Jay Taylor, Paul King, Danny Smith, Chris Lockwood (John Hefford 60), Matthew Knight, Kurt Smith, Erkan Yusuf (Joshua Coulson 60), Andre Humphrey. Subs not used: Paul Agu, Babatunde Olagunju, Danny O'Connor.

i heard Dan Spendlove played well but with a lack of defence couldnt make his debut as keeper better.

i support canvey and thought we were going to have a much tougher game, especially as you seem to be our bogey team.Your defence was very poor especially the two in the middle,(one of who used to play for us) and we seemed to be able to get over the top easily.Wish we could score that many every week, but we know what its like having a lot of goals put past us as well.

That new keeper is awful, send him back to whatever Sunday league club he was plucked from.

With him in the sticks, we'll go right down the pan.

I'm putting full blame on the keeper.

lol @ that dick, what gives you the right to say he was awful, when if not for that keeper would have been 4 or 5-0 down at half time m8, it was a bad display by defence and an overal bad game. He didnt come from any Sunday league club m8 either he came from East Thurrock utd and a former West ham player, get your facts right son before you go slagging a player off you dont know. Who payed you to come out with that **** lol.

Most goals Tilbury have conceded all season. What game was you watching?

Former West Hame player? How many appearances did he make for them? Just because once upon a time he played for their under-12s or something doesn't mean he's any good.

I can see why Grays got rid of him.
Posted by: wayne, essex on 11:34am Wed 2 Jan 08
Lol thought Grays Athletic might have something to do with this. Kids lol. He left Grays because of the noob chairman and son there.

Jealous people at Grays lol because he has found a club and happy. Grays will go down hill, started already with low crowds for conference lol.

Wayne danny is your son i take it ? well wayne why raise to the bait ? we have all been told to stay off this poxy site so for the sake of danny please do the same

Danny done ok and maybe only 1 goal was a bit down to him but he will get better once he knows us all and we wont ever play that bad again
Posted by: John Wentworth, Tilbury on 1:22pm Wed 2 Jan 08
I've been watching Tilbury for 27 years I'll have you know.

Wayne, looking at your posts - you're more of an embarrassment than Danny was this weekend against Canvey.
Posted by: jordan, grays on 1:35pm Wed 2 Jan 08
If anf its a big If, IF Danny left Grays because the chairman was a knob then I am sure there would have been a long queue vying for the services of talented young keeper.

The fact he is at Tilbury pretty much spells out that he is nowhere near Conference/Conferenc
e South standard.

Hard to take as a relative maybe but fact I am afraid

Yeh I know and sorry, It gets to me when people slate people when they dont know him. Dan has told me to shut up and not snap to, and he said he ignores the silly comments and get on with Tilbury 100%. I will stay out of things now and ignore them too.

Dont be silly, clinging onto Grays is all he has to pretend his son is in the big time.

Maybe he is trying to live his own dreams through his son, abit like Beauty Pageant mums in America
