GARY Henty said ‘it was time for a change’ after ending his three-year spell as Tilbury manager.
Henty, along with assistant manager Danny Smith, stepped down following Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Potters Bar Town in the FA Trophy.
It was the Dockers’ fourth defeat in a row and Henty said he needed a change of scenery.
“It was a really hard decision to make,” he said. “I didn’t take it lightly but I had some conversations with Smudger (Smith) and we felt it was time for a change.
“We have been associated with the club for a long time – I made my debut in 2010 and Smudger before that.
“There are a lot of people to thank, including chairman Danny Nash who gave me the opportunity to become a manager.
“We both have very fond memories but I felt I needed a break and a change of scenery. More than that, I felt the club needed that too.
“I have not made any plans and I have had no contact from anyone at Aveley.
“I love football and people know I put everything into it, and that will always be the case.
“We will see if the phone rings and then go from there.”
