TILBURY returned to winning ways after by securing a 2-1 win over local rivals Brentwood Town.

Goals in either half from Adam Vyse and Luke Hornsley resulted in Matt Price's strike for the visitors being merely a consolation.

And the victory left Gary Henty pleased with his side.

Henty said: "I am pleased with the result and we dominated for long periods.

"We could have put the game out of sight with the chances we had."

On a very hot afternoon, Tilbury made two changes to the side that lost 4-1 at Romford on Saturday, with Kurt Smith and George Pullen returning to the side.

And it was the home side who started well and took the lead on 10 minutes.

A quick throw found Ryan Melaugh on the left, who played in Vyse to fire home.

With Tilbury in the driving seat, Hornsley fired into the side netting four minutes later.

The former Heybridge Swifts striker saw his shot on the half hour spilt by Brentwood Town goalkeeper Anthony Page and away to safety.

Just before the break, Price saw his two efforts blocked by Clarke Bogard and Emiel Aiken.

Price started the second half well and headed just wide as Brentwood Town got themselves back in the encounter.

Lewis Jaggs and Toch Singh came off the bench soon after the interval and it was Jaggs, on 65 minutes, who saw his header parried by Page and into the feet of Hornsley to extend the Dockers' lead.

With 71 minutes on the clock, the visitors did get themselves back in the game when the effective Price fired low into the net after some good build up play.

Vyse had a 75th minute effort parried over the crossbar, while substitute Michael Solako also missed an opportunity.

But the Dockers were still ale to claim all three points and move up to 11th in the Isthmian North standings.
