THURROCK 2, MAIDENHEAD 2 Thurrock came back from two down but it wasn’t enough to beat Maidenhead at Ship Lane last night.

The visitors took the lead in the first minute when Keiran Knight headed past Joe Woolley with the game just underway.

Thurrock’s response was almost immediate with Leon McKenzie heading against the bar from Lee Flynn’s pinpoint cross.

The rest of the first half saw very few chances but McKenzie was unlucky when he hooked a shot just wide.

The visitors started the second half the way they started the first, breaking away from a Thurrock corner and Collins smashing a shot past Woolley. Minutes later Matt Paine shot just over but Chris Tardif in the Magpies’ goal looked to have it covered.

Thurrock continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded when David Bryant was fouled in the box and Leon McKenzie sent Tardif the wrong way to reduce the deficit.

Fleet were now completely in the ascendancy and won a second penalty due to a blatant handball in the box. McKenzie stepped up again but put the penalty in the same place and Tardif made the save.

McKenzie didn’t let it get him down and minutes later smashed a goal past Tardif from Matt Bodkin’s cross. The impressive McKenzie then shot just over from 20 yards as Thurrock battled for a winner but found no breakthrough.

Thurrock: Woolley, Pope (Judge), Flynn, Clarke, Anderson (Smith), Bodkin, Orinolishe, Lalite, Bryant, McKenzie, Olima (Paine). Man of the Match: Leon McKenzie
