Thurrock FC go fourth after great weekend

Thurrock 3, Bath City 1 Fleet continue to make a splash in the promotion race after this Ship Lane success over Bath.

They dedicated the game to late fan Ron Jameson and looked in trouble early on when goalkeeper Joe Woolley dropped a cross but recovered well to save from Kaid Mohamed.

But the hosts then buried their visitors with two quick goals.

The first was scored by Kenny Clark, his first for the club in his 122nd appearance, on 21 minutes following a great cross from Fola Orinolishe.

Then, little more than two minutes later, a superb ball by Leon Lalite sent David Bryant clear — only for him to be brought down in the box by Bath’s Jim Rollo.

And life was far from sweet for the visitors when Leon McKenzie sent opposing keeper Ryan Robinson the wrong way from the spot.

On the half-hour Thurrock effectively killed off the game when recent signing Craig Pope led the breakaway from a Bath corner and fired home his side’s third, also his first for the club.

To be fair, the West Country visitors tried their best to get back into the game.

Woolley had to be alert to keep out a Sido Jombati effort.

But the second-half was generally a quieter affair with Bath going close a couple of times and Bryant shooting just wide with a speculative volley.

Mohamed did grab a Bath consolation from the penalty spot but this was very much again Thurrock’s afternoon and they are currently well-placed at fourth in the table.
