THURROCK were unable to register two consecutive wins as they lost 4-2 to Wingate & Finchley.

Mark Stimson's side went into the Isthmian Premier League fixture having triumphed at Leatherhead in midweek.

Charlie Stimson and Curtis Ujah were on target for Fleet, but a Afolabi Obafemi brace, along with goals from Marc Charles-Smith and Rob Laney, were enough to see off the hosts.

The visitors, who went into the clash four points better off than their Isthmian Premier League rivals, took the lead inside five minutes.

Charles-Smith lobbed Fleet goalkeeper Jake Jessup, and his effort hit the underside of the crossbar before crossing the line.

And Wingate were to double their advantage with 25 minutes on the clock.

Quentin Monville was sent clear down the right wing and his low cross was steered home by Obafemi.

But the hosts reduced the arrears three minutes later as Stimson found a way past away goalkeeper Shane Gore.

However, Wingate were to restore their two-goal lead seven minutes before the break as Obafemi beat the offside trap before Laney drilled the ball home from 12 yards out.

And Laney returned the favour as Wingate scored their fourth of the afternoon five minutes after half-time.

Laney's header across goal found Obafemi to slot home.

But Ujah, who scored in the midweek win over Leatherhead, gave Thurrock hope as he converted with 67 minutes played.

However, Fleet were unable to stage an unlikely comeback and Wingate left Ship Lane with all three points.
