TWO goals in three minutes cost Thurrock any points at lowly Soham Town Rangers and their poor form continued in their bid to secure a Ryman North play-off berth.

Sam Mulready scored twice either side of the hour mark to turn the game on its head, after David Cowley had given Fleet a 12th minute lead.

And manager Mark Stimson said it was a frustrating afternoon.

“It was another frustrating result after we had put ourselves in a good position at half time,” he said. “Then we gave away two very poor goals.

“We hit the woodwork and their goalkeeper pulled off a couple of decent saves but we came away with nothing.”

Fleet took an early lead through Cowley. His cross looked as though it would fall to Jack Barham but he failed to get a touch, along with the goalkeeper, as the ball looped straight in.

Ronnie Winn sent a lobbed effort over the crossbar although Thurrock needed goalkeeper Bobby Mason to divert a shot onto the post at the end of the half.

Joe Christou hit the frame of the goal up the other end but Soham were to level on 60 minutes.

Mulready scored from the penalty spot after a shove in the area before a long throw caused chaos, leaving the same man to net just two minutes later.

Mark Onyemah hit the bar in the dying embers of the match but it wasn’t to be for Thurrock.
