THURROCK and AFC Hornchurch played out an entertaining goalless draw as both kept their play-off hopes alive going into the closing weeks.

Both sides had chances to win the match, with the home side with the first real effort only for Junior Luke to screw his shot off target.

George Purcell was a livewire for Hornchurch and only a diving save from goalkeeper Rhys Madden kept it 0-0.

But a golden chance fell to the away side shortly before the break when Ross Wall’s header dropped just wide of the post, with Harry Agombar also diverting an effort wide.

After the break the Urchins cranked up the pressure with Purcell and David Knight proving hard to handle, and Madden enjoying a good afternoon between the posts with a number of impressive saves.

Former Canvey Island midfielder Tambeson Eyong was then kept out by the stopper and his saves proved crucial as Fleet hung on for a point which keeps them 11 points into the play-offs but also 11 points off top spot with five games to play.
