Thurrock 1-2 Witham Town
From Ship Lane
Ryman One North
THURROCK lost their second match in a week as their hopes for automatic promotion were dealt another blow.
Following their 2-1 defeat against Harlow Town, Fleet were looking for a response against Witham.
But after a goalless first 84 minutes, it appeared the match was destined to end 0-0, but it burst to life in the closing exchanges.
Both sides had changes to get the first goal before that but when it did come it was from the penalty spot.
Tom Cocklin made sure with an assured kick from 12 yards, with former Aveley man Nathan Koranteng getting a second two minutes later.
David Cowley pulled one back in the 90th minute to set up a frantic final few moments, but the defeat leaves Thurrock fourth in the standings, 12 points off the automatic promotion place.
Thurrock: Madden, Morgan, Clark, Toner, Sutton, Gleed (Baker), Christou, Agombar, Winn (Wall), Cole (Francis), Cowley
