THURROCK produced a stunning first-half display to shock league leaders AFC Sudbury.

Fleet hit four goals against the Suffolk side to consolidate their play-off place, as Joe Christou, Tommy Cummings, Michael Toner and Ronnie Winn netted.

Mark Stimson’s men started the better and could have taken the lead inside three minutes. Winn was played in but his stabbed effort was inches past the post.

The first goal of the afternoon took 12 minutes to come and it was Christou that got the opener. The attacker made ground inside the area and his shot arrowed into the far corner, possibly with a touch from Winn on the way.

Three minutes later it was 2-0 and it was a bolt from the blue. Cummings, a recent addition from Grays Athletic, smashed a fierce drive beyond Marcus Garnham and into the corner.

Michael Toner made it 3-0 on the half hour mark, with Sudbury reeling after a recent run that had seen the hosts win 11 of the last 12.

Winn made it 4-0 shortly before the break as he beat defender James Baker and rolled the ball past the goalkeeper.

Sudbury improved in the second-half, and had a number of chances to get back into the match.

Luke Callander came close on more than one occasion but Fleet held on for a surprisingly comfortable win, to move to within six points of the top spot.
