Thurrock 0–1 Phoenix Sports

From Ship Lane

Ryman One North

THURROCK lost their second match in succession as their promotion hopes took another hit against Phoenix Sports.

Fleet hadn’t lost at Ship Lane in the league since the end of October but they were edged out by the side from Kent.

Joe Christou had the first chance of the game, but his shot was saved, with Ross Wall sending his follow-up into the goalkeeper’s midriff.

Fleet goalkeeper Rhys Madden had to stay on his toes at the other end, although Wall’s shot against the post was the closest Fleet came in the first period.

Fleet were claiming for a penalty when Christou went down in the penalty area, although nothing was given and the half ended goalless.

The only goal came on the hour mark, although it was a contentious one. A free-kick to the far post was put away by Harrison Carnegie, but the linesman had his flag raised for offside. However, after consulting with him the referee overruled his assistant and the goal stood.

Substitute Ross Gleed played in Reece Morgan but his effort could not beat the crossbar, Michael Toner hit the bar as the pressure continued to build, but it wasn’t Thurrock’s day.
