Bury Town 4-2 Thurrock

FA Trophy 3rd Qualifying Round

THURROCK crashed out of the FA Trophy after they were well beaten by their Ryman One North rivals Bury Town.

Fleet lost 4-2 in a battle of two teams likely to challenge at the top of the league come the end of the season.

Ollie Hughes opened the scoring with 12 minutes gone as he met a free-kick to flick past Rhys Madden.

Although the hosts were pegged back shortly before the interval when Michael Toner scored an equaliser, tapping home from six yards after Joe Christou's initial effort had been saved.

However, a fierce 20 minute spell from Bury after the break saw Fleet’s hopes of progression come to an abrupt end.

Noel Aitkens scored a header at the back post seven minutes after the restart, while a penalty was given against Kamarl Duncan soon after for a questionable handball call by the referee.

Cemal Ramaden scored from the rebound, after his initial effort had been saved by Madden.

And the game was over when Phil Weavers scored to make it 4-1, with another free header.

Toner got his second late on, drilling home following a neat flick from Keke Orth but it wasn’t enough.
