Maldon & Tiptree 2-2 Thurrock

Ross Gleed netted an injury-time leveller to hand Mark Stimson’s Thurrock a share of the spoils at Maldon & Tiptree.

Maldon had taken an early lead that was doubled within 60 seconds before first Ross Wall and then Gleed ensured a point for Fleet, who have started the season well.

Darren McQueen had netted with just nine minutes on the clock. Terrific work by David Segura saw him beat a number of players before feeding the ball into McQueen who finished impressively.

And 60 seconds later it was 2-0 and it was a wonderful individual strike from Matt Lock. The attacker picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and crashed it past Rhys Madden in Thurrock’s goal.

Fleet did have the ball in the net before half-time, only for the flag to halt their celebrations, but they continued to press forward.

Wall did reduce the deficit two minutes into the second-half with a neat finish, and they looked the most likely after that.

Hamish Galbraith was sent off for Maldon with 10 minutes remaining and that gave Fleet the second wind they needed, with Gleed scoring at the death.
