Thurrock 2–1 Aveley

From Ship Lane

Alan Turvey League Cup

THURROCK got the better of their league rivals Aveley to progress in the Alan Turvey Cup.

A second-half brace from Ross Gleed was enough for Mark Stimson’s men, who had seen Aveley substitute Lee Prescott equalise.

After a drab first-half was unable to separate the sides, the second period burst into life and was a much livelier contest.

Fleet striker Gleed tucked home a penalty 10 minutes into the half to give Mark Stimson’s side the lead, with the Millers well denied by Rhys Madden between the sticks on a number of occasions.

But super sub Prescott netted within a minute of coming onto the field to bring parity.

But Gleed was determined to have the last laugh as he netted two minutes later with what was the decisive goal.
