Romford 2-2 Thurrock
From Ship Lane
Ryman One North
THURROCK edged to a 2-2 draw against Romford in a tense match at Ship Lane.
Romford, the ‘home side’ against the landlords, came from behind to take a 2-1 advantage into the break.
Steve Carvell gave Fleet the lead after only nine minutes when he volleyed home after Paul Clayton could only half clear the ball.
But Clayton made amends to put the hosts back in charge after Nick Reynolds had drawn Romford level.
It appeared as though Fleet would find a way back into the match at 1-1, as Jamie Dicks was sent off 10 minutes before half-time following two yellow cards, with Clayton netting seconds later.
Fleet pressed after the break, although Romford had their moments – with a penalty shout turned down – and it was a captain’s intervention that draw Mark Stimson’s side level.
Lewwis Spence was the man to score, netting a fine volley to make it 2-2.
Leslie Thompson tested Omand twice but couldn’t score, with Spence denied as the game entered its final moments.
Lewis Clark hit the crossbar before a late brawl saw Romford’s Jack Berry and Fleet’s Rob Clark sent off.
