AVELEY bounced back from back-to-back defeats to beat bottom-of-the-table Burnham Ramblers.

A brace from Spencer Harrison and a late strike from Theo Ola were enough for Justin Gardner’s side.

The Millers started the better and Jack Stevenson had the first real chance of the game, shooting wide of Matt Belcher’s goal.

Burnham were showing signs of creativity but failed to truly test James Marrable and Aveley went in front before the half-time break.

Ola was fouled and Sammy Knott’s delivery was met by Harrison who headed home.

But Bertie Brayley’s Burnham were proving a match for the hosts. Marrable tipped aside one effort from Liam Burgess before another long-range effort was pushed over the crossbar.

Marcus Elliott broke through and had a great chance to double the lead only for Belcher to deny him.

Lee Scott was taken of for Burnham, having sustained what appeared to be a fractured knee-cap, and Ramblers rallied – hitting the crossbar through Burgess soon after.

Harrison’s second goal cme moments after the break and had a touch of fortune about it.

Knott’s corner bobbled around the penalty area, dropping to Harrison and his shot was deflected in.

Burnham’s efforts deserved a goal but Bradley Nobbs’s effort was scooped over the crossbar.

The third goal came through Ola, whose 30-yard effort may have taken a slight deflection on the way to goal, totally deceiving Belcher and finding the net.
