RYMAN ONE NORTH
Soham Town Rangers 2
Thurrock 3
KURT Smith was the hero for Mark Stimson’s Fleet at the weekend as he bagged two of Fleet’s three goals against Soham Town Rangers.
But Stimmo’s side had to come from behind to gain all three points against Soham who were once play-off place contenders in Ryman One North.
But the win put Thurrock in sxth place - just one below the play-off places. Saturday’s match started badly for Fleet when the tricky Luke Stanley gave the home club the lead. His goal came just before half time but after the break Thurrock were level thanks to Kurt Smith’s 52nd minute penalty.
Just 15 minutes later Smith had the ball in the back of the net again. He whipped the ball in to put Fleet ahead. But the matter was far from over and Stanley scored again in the 80th minute - and the match looked as if it would end up even. But it’s a fact that Mark Stimson breeds a never-say-die attitude into his players and they battered away at the Rangers defence. And Ross Wood found the net to give Fleet a crucial three points and keep their hopes of making teh play-offs alive.
