DAN ENGLISH shrugged off a broken nose to play his part as Britain’s five-a-side football team attempted to save face at London 2012 – it was just shame no one else followed suit.

The 21-year-old suffered his facial injury after an accidental clash during Britain’s second match of the Paralympics against Argentina on Sunday – that ended 0-0.

He had earlier helped Britain open their campaign with a 1-1 draw with Spain but a 1-0 defeat to Iran in their final group game ended medal hopes.

So it was onto a first classification match to decipher places five to eight with English helping Britain come from behind late on to draw 1-1 with China and take the game into penalties.

English once again found the net in the shoot out, however captain Dave Clarke and Keryn Seal missed while China were flawless to triumph 2-1 – but the finger of blame wasn’t being pointed.

“We are very, very disappointed,” said English – who must shrug off more than just his broken nose for the seventh-eighth place play-off with Turkey on Saturday.

“We all try our hardest and we got beat unfortunately and that can happen to any team really. I am pleased with the whole team’s performance to be honest.

“We all put an effort in and hard work, it wasn’t an individual who got us the draw it was teamwork.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for that teamwork and the commitment that all the boys put in leading up to this tournament and in this tournament.

“I re-smashed my nose against China and I am going to have to get it examined.”
