Sam's the man as school shares pride in his England shirt
 |
| WELL DONE: Head John King with Sam. |
ONE of Thurrock's most exciting young sports stars has achieved his dream of representing his country.
Sam Stanley from William Edwards School and Sports College, in Grays was part of the England U-16 Rugby squad that took part in the Four nations tournament in France.
Sam, who also represents London and South East Division, Essex and Saracens earned his first cap when he played at outside centre against Italy U-17's at the Stade Pierre Rajon, home of French club Bourgoin.
On his return to school, Sam was asked by Headmaster John King OBE to unveil a display board in the school hall to celebrate his achievements as part of the school's achievements assembly.
Sam was also awarded one of the highest and most prestigious awards that the school has to offer.
The Edwardian award is awarded to students who have had a significant impact on life at the school.
These awards are normally awarded at presentation evening in November to Year 11 students who left during the previous summer. In 46 years, no student has ever been awarded Edwardian status while still a student at the school.
This is a measure of how highly the school feels about Sam's achievement.
Deputy Headmaster, Ralph Henderson MBE said: "Sam Stanley is a shy modest young man who is a terrific role model both on and off the rugby field. All at William Edwards School and Sports College are extremely proud of his achievements."
