TWO students from Palmer's College in Grays became national champions for Women's Doubles badminton at the British Colleges national sports finals at Loughborough University.

Charlotte Lane and Georgina Stamenova were undefeated against opponents from across the country, continuing Palmer's College's excellent reputation for badminton - its players have qualified for the national finals for each of the past five years.

In the swimming pool second and third places were achieved by Natalie Ward, Jessica Ford and Georgina Hunton Clarke.

Coming 53rd out of 90 was a good result for Lisa Morgans in the cross country as she is really a tri-athlete who was using the competition as training for that event.

Palmer's P.E. teacher John Briggs accompanied the students to Loughborough.

"The facilities there are regarded as the best at any university in the country," he said. "It was like a mini Olympics! The girls were very disciplined in their performances and very committed to success.

"They were truly a credit to the college."
