EAST Thurrock United Ladies FC held a party at their Rookery Hill ground on Saturday to celebrate the formation of their new club and to recognise the achievements of their players during the 2006-07 season when they played under the Corringham Cosmos banner.
Highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque for £2,000 by Sue Sanders, Sales and Marketing Director of TPP Ltd., who will sponsor the girls' match kit, tracksuits and warm-up tops next season.
TPP supply clinical software that is widely used within primary care throughout Essex. Sue said: "We are delighted to help the girls in their first season with East Thurrock United and we wish them every success."
All the girls were presented with a commemorative plaque for the 2006-07 season and trophies were awarded to: Kealy Farley (Player of the Year), Caroline Sheppard (Most Improved Player of the Year), Hayley Williamson (Manager's Player of the Year) and Sophie Dowman (Top Goalscorer).
Sophie scored 26 goals and Kealy scored 25 goals in 14 games. Sue Sanders presented the plaques and medals and Lauren Riddick, team captain, presented her with a bouquet of flowers.
Earlier in the day, Scott Farley, Chairman, and Nigel Payne, Secretary, had been presented with the Dave Jenkins Shield' by Corringham Cosmos to recognise the girls' achievement as the Most Improved Corringham Cosmos Team in 2006-07.
Scott Farley thanked Jane Bridges, Sharon McGovern and Sue Smith for their sterling efforts in organising a fabulous event and arranging a great selection of raffle prizes.
They were each presented with flowers by Lauren.
The Club Committee would like to thank the following local businesses who kindly donated raffle prizes: Touch Care (Lakeside), Monroe's (Grays), Down to Earth (Grays), Toni's Hairdressers (Lakeside), Body Shop (Lakeside), Lush (Lakeside), Timpsons Key Cutters (Lakeside) and The Co-operative (Grays).
The club is holding a trial for prospective new players on Saturday, June 23. Trialists must be in the current school year 9 or 10 on that date.
The trial will be held at Billet Lane Recreation Ground, Stanford-le-Hope, as the pitch at Rookery Hill is still being prepared for the new season.
Interested players should contact Kevin Wainford on 07 984 242 379 to register and receive further details.
