Hammers will meet Coventry in Craven final

LAKESIDE Hammers speedway team now know their opponents in the two-legged final of the Craven Shield.

They will met Coventry after the Bees pulled o a remarkable fightback against Poole Pirates.

They were 24-points behind after the first leg but the holders set up a clash with Lakeside by scoring three 5-1s in the last three races at Brandon.

Bees boss Peter Oakes said: "It's great to see the crowd on their feet again because we're into a Final. It was a magnificent performance from everybody."

The match turned when Poole skipper Bjarne Pedersen suffered a suspected broken wrist in a heavy crash.

Pedersen clipped team-mate Adam Skornicki and then hit the fence in his third ride with the incident changing the complexion of the tie.

The Dane said: "It was my fault, but I wanted to get us into the final. I feel so angry about it, for the club and the fans."

Lakeside promoter Stuart Douglas said: "I must admit that I thought Poole had done enough but it just shows that the Shield has significant importance this year, because Coventry fought bravely to battle through to face us in the final.

"The two legs are going to see an epic battle at Brandon and back here at the Arena Essex raceway. I know both team really want this trophy."

Fellow promoter Jon Cook added: "I'm really looking forward to locking horns with Coventry for the final. It's going to be a bit special."

Dates have yet to be confirmed for the final.
