Comfortable win for Hammers
 |
| TOP SCORER: Andreas Jonsson |
Lakeside Hammers 51, Ipswich Witches 42
LAKESIDE Hammers returned to action following a two-week home break to see off their near rivals Ipswich in comfortable fashion.
The scoreline belies the control that the Hammers had on the meeting, with a brace of early 5-1s moving the home side into a twelve point lead after six races.
Andreas Jonsson returned fresh from last week's final appearance in the Slovenian Grand Prix to reel off a perfect set of four race wins, only denied a full house by a congested first turn in the final race.
It was Jonsson who set the ball rolling in heat one, completely missing the start only to move from last to first in typically spectacular fashion.
A shared heat followed in heat two before Adam Shields led the first of two 5-1's from his new partnership with Lubos Tomicek. Shields remained in superb form throughout, missing out on a full score in the final race with Jonsson.
The Witches, though, proved determined to keep in touch with the Hammers and Steve Johnston, a former skipper down in Essex, enjoyed a superb evening, taking a double point tactical ride victory in heat eight.
Johnston's clever interaction with Witches guest Edward Kennett bore fruit in heat eleven when they combined superbly to keep out both Ricky Kling and Jonas Davidsson for a 5-1.
The Hammers, though, made victory a certainty when Shields combined with new reserve Joonas Kylmakorpi for a 5-1 in the twelth race. Despite two wins for the again-impressive Piotr Swiderski in the final two heats, Hammers claimed a further two league points and extractED small revenge for their Good Friday defeat against the Witche1.
