Lakeside Hammers 58, Wolverhampton Wolves 32
HAMMERS continued their quest to top the Elite league speedway table by comfortably seeing off Wolverhampton in a meeting that saw new signing Tomasz Jedrzejak return a paid maximum on his debut.

Jedrzejak has been out of British Speedway for several seasons and in that time has established himself as a quality rider in both Swedish and Polish League racing.

He just failed to make next year's Grand Prix series after scoring 11 points in Sunday's GP Challenge meeting, finishing ahead of a score of top Elite performers.

The Pole joined the team on a 5point average which means he will race at reserve in October and has been brought in by the Club primarily to add big track experience to strengthen the team for the Championship finale.

He arrived at Arena Essex this week having travelled by road from Sweden in order to bring his own equipment with him.

That application and stamp of intent paid off Jedrzejak displayed spectacular form and was hugely impressive, each of his five outings yielding a Hammers 5-1. Along with his more established Lakeside team mates, this new collective tore into the Wolves and quickly moved into a 16 point advantage after six heats.

There was the usual high standard of entertainemnt despite the one-sided scoreline and the home side had to resort to good team riding early on to prevent their opponents from finding a way past.

The year's dynamic pairing of Andreas Jonsson and Leigh Lanham saw off Fredrik Lindgren in such a fashion in the opening race despite AJ having to come out on Ricky Kling's bike.

The Essex men were again well served by guest Rory Schlein, but the popular Aussie was involved in a nasty looking fall in heat seven when he came together with Niels-Kristian Iversen on the third bend of the opening lap.

Both men eventually returned to the pits on foot but Iversen failed to appear again and Schlein withdraw from his final outing with the meeting result beyond doubt.

Iversen's crash effectively ended any chance Wolves had of making a comeback and a couple of successive victories for Jonsson after the turn cemented the home team's supremacy.

The Swedish superstar saw his evening end in a very untypical fashion when he fell on turn three in heats 13 and 15, two incidents which effectively prevented the Hammers from breaking the sixty point barrier.

One down, two to go, with a trip to peterborough on Thursday and the return fixture at Lakeside on Friday.
