Diamonds due as Grays set to sparkle in last home outing

WITH talks of the new 7,500 all seater stadium continuing to dominate off-field thoughts, Grays Athletic will play host to Rushden and Diamonds in the season's final Blue Square game at the New Recreation ground on Thursday, knowing that a win could move them up to 12th position.

Grays went home slightly disappointed last time out after controlling most of the game against Salisbury on Tuesday, after Danny Kedwell had headed them in front after only four minutes.

They then had enough clear cut chances to put the game to bed before half time. Perhaps the best chance of the evening fell to substitute Neil McCafferty late on in the second half, but he failed to capatilise on the opposistion defence's inability to clear the ball and his shot was saved by Ryan Clarke.

But for all Grays' chances, Salisbury equalised after 25 minutes when centre back Tim Bond was left unmarked to head home from a cross from the left, this was one of only a few chances Salisbury had all evening.

Grays Athletic chairman/manager, Mick Woodward, has a full squad avaliable for selection for Thursday's game with the exception of Ross Flitney, who still has a broken arm, and Nicky Eyre, who is still suffering from an ankle problem. Jon Ashton will be subject to a late fitness test on the injury he picked up on Tuesday night.

Tomorrows opponents, Rushden and diamonds, we will be looking to return to form after slipping to 2 succesive defeats, the latest being a 1-0 defeat away at oxford.
