Grays Athletic boss demands 110% from players

BLUES boss Julian Dicks has issued a call to arms to his Grays Athletic side which is languishing just off the bottom of the Blue Square Premier table.

“We are going to have to start giving it 110 per cent,” he said, aware that not reversing Grays’ form will see Blues heading for a miserable end to the season.

And this weekend has an extra frisson of excitement as the visitors are Rushden and Diamonds who are managed by former Blues boss Justin Edinburgh.

And Rushden have been firing well in recent weeks – slamming in 10 goals in three matches.

These stats are not lost on the Blues boss and former West Ham United defender who took over at the New Rec in the middle of September.

Dicks said: “Rushden have scored ten... and we’ve conceded eight in the last two games.

“Rushden are going to be a big test for us. They are a decent outfit and I know Justin Edinburgh well. What we need is for the players to really give 110 per cent.

“If the players give 110 per cent we can do well, but recently not all the players have been doing this.

“We all understand how frustrating this is for the fans and they deserve more.

“Training is going well and the lads are getting on well, but it doesn’t matter what you do on the training ground if the players don’t carry this through to the pitch.

“At the moment we’re lucky that we don’t have any injuries.

“Of the new lads, Andrea Zola has been making an impact.

“He looked good against Kidderminster and has got the passing skills from his father.”

Dicks will be looking to the left back and the rest of the team to tighten up against a Rushden and Diamonds side which stands in seventh place and poised to challenge for one of the play-off places should their mini-run be allowed to continue unchecked.
