9:00am Monday 1st February 2010
Sub-zero temperatures returned to make it another gloomy afternoon for non-league soccer.
Grays Athletic’s bid to improve their hopes of escaping relegation from the Blue Square Premier were wrecked when their scheduled visit to Chester City, the only team below them, was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
And Thurrock suffered the same fate at Ship Lane when their Blue Square South home clash with Maidenhead United was called off.
Fleet remain in the final play-off spot and go to Dorchester Town tonight.
Neither of the local Blue Square teams are behind with their fixtures, but Concord Rangers are heading for a pile-up following the postponement of their visit to Aveley to take on Romford.
Just outside the play-off spots in Ryman One North, they still have 20 league matches to go and are due to play their League Cup third round home tie with Premier side Billericay Town on Thursday.
Before that they go to Potters Bar Town in the league tomorrow before hosting the same opposition in a busy week next Saturday.
Concord’s match was one of six off in the Ryman One North, while two Premier and four Division One South matches were also lost.
Six Essex Senior League games were off, including the Hullbridge Sports v Southend Manor derby, and there were also postponements in the Essex Olympian League and on the local parks scene.
