FOOTBALL: Colchester United's Jamie Guy has been linked with a move to Blue Square Premier side Grays Athletic.

The striker’s U’s contract has been cancelled by mutual consent and he is now free to find another club.

The powerful 22-year-old striker whose deal was up at the end of this season, was plagued by off-the-field problems during his time with the U’s.

Last September, he admitted a charge of using threatening and abusive behaviour, following a row outside a Colchester nightclub.

Guy was picked up as an under-15 player by the U’s, after being released by West Ham United.

Phil Parkinson handed Guy his senior Colchester debut as a substitute against Blackpool in February, 2005.

His first Football League start for the U’s came at Sunderland in November, 2006.

He appeared as a substitute 31 times during Colchester’s first season in the Championship, scoring against West Brom, Coventry and Cardiff.

However, Guy was hampered by injury in the 2007-08 season and found first-team opportunities difficult to come by after that.

Loan spells at Oxford United, Dagenham and Redbridge and Port Vale followed.

But Guy was unable to force his way into Colchester manager Aidy Boothroyd’s plans and has now been released.

He could now link up with Grays, after boss Julian Dicks declared his interest in the player.

Meanwhile, youngster Russell Malton has joined Ryman Premier side Billericay Town on a month's loan.
