Farnborough 5-0 Grays Athletic

GRAYS Athletic were humiliated in Hampshire as struggling Farnborough hit nine-man Blues for five.

Bogdan Vastsuk struck three goals for the team that started the day seven points from safety at the bottom, although there was little between the teams in the opening exchanges.

The first goal came shortly after the half-hour mark and it was an emphatic strike. Vastsuk’s strike was blocked on the edge of the box and Charlie Allen hammered home the rebound past a despairing Lamar Johnson.

Grays were looking for a route back into the match, but Farnborough were the team that looked the most likely.

They doubled their lead after an hour. Vastsuk was played through in acres of space and, after Johnson failed to claim, he stroked into the far corner.

And the Grays stoppers’ afternoon was to go from bad to worse after he cut down Dennis Oli and was sent off.

Player/manager Mark Bentley donned the keeper’s gloves, but couldn’t replicate his heroics from last season’s match against Hampton & Richmond Borough.

He did deny Vastsuk with a neat save, but couldn’t keep out the same man with 10 minutes remaining as he headed into the net.

Oli got himself on the scoresheet before Nicky Symons was sent off after he fouled Vastsuk when through one-on-one.

And he scored from the spot to make it 5-0 and complete the rout.
