GRAYS Athletic manager Mark Bentley has moved to reassure supporters that he is doing all he can to bring in players, after a number of high-profile names left the club.

Alex Addai, Tommy Cummings, Jay Leader, Harry Agombar, James Stevens and Nathan Ferguson have all departed in recent months, with the only incoming players being Nicky Symons and a short-term deal for goalkeeper Tom Hadler.

And Bentley says he and his backroom staff are doing all in their power to bring in reinforcements as 10th placed Grays look to close the gap on the play-offs.

“I know what I want,” said Bentley. “We are trying our hardest and we are talking to people in a bid to bring players in. We have let players go as they needed minutes but we are light in terms of depth.

“We need the right sort of character to come into this dressing room and I am quite particular about that. But we are looking at several options and will keep exploring the best opportunities open to us.”

Bentley also had some words for unsettled striker Dumebi Dumaka, with speculation over his future still hovering over everyone at the club.

Dumaka has 17 goals so far this season and has trialled with several professional clubs, most recently League One Barnsley, although he was not offered a contract.

“DD is unsettled at the moment and that has been reflected in his recent performances,” said Bentley. “I think the best thing for DD now is to show what he can do for us for the rest of the season and see what happens in the summer.

“He is missing games for us as he trials at professional clubs and, while I want my players to progress as far as they can, I think it is affecting his displays. He needs to let his football do the talking and what will be in the summer will be.”
