Wingate & Finchley 5–4 Grays Athletic
Ryman League Cup
From Summers Lane
GRAYS Athletic are out of the Ryman League Cup after they came out on the wrong side of a nine-goal extravaganza against Wingate & Finchley.
Finalists last year, Blues will not compete for the showpiece again, despite coming from 3-1 down to steal a 4-3 lead.
But back came Wingate immediately to level, scoring the winner nine minutes from time.
Grays got off to the worst possible start when Mark Goodman hit two goals in seven minutes to put Wingate in charge after just 17 minutes.
Daniel Burnett-Williams got off the mark for Grays with a goal two minutes later but the two-goal advantage was restored inside 60 seconds.
Veteran Glen Little made it 3-2 before the equaliser came two minutes before the break – Bradley Maltese getting the goal.
And it was the same man who put Blues back in front. Maltese finished with ease to the delight of the away fans but for the second time in the match they conceded again within 60 seconds.
Billy Healey got the winner on 81 minutes.
Grays: Johnson, Hutchings, Siva, Nicholson, Leader, Stevens, Michael-Percil, Maltese, Burnett-Williams, Little, Addai
