Hanwell Town 1–2 Grays Athletic

From Reynolds Field

FA Cup third qualifying round

A LAST-GASP penalty from Dumebi Dumaka earned Grays Athletic a win at plucky Hanwell Town, and to within a win of the FA Cup’s first round.

Dumaka, restored to the starting line-up after missing the last four games through injury and holiday, kept his calm from 12 yards to send the Blues fans into raptures although they were made to work for the win.

Mark Bentley’s men were strong favourites to advance into the next round against a side who played a tier below them.

But the Southern Division One Central outfit proved a tough nut to crack.

Grays were indebted to their goalkeeper Lamar Johnson for a penalty save in the opening stages, as he kept the ball out twice to keep the scores level after James Stevens was adjudged to have handled in the box.

And Grays made the most of that save, as Jay Leader was on the mark after just 17 minutes to open the scoring.

Danilson Vicenti drew Hanwell level after just 60 seconds of that goal but Arvydas Kacinkevicius was having the game of his life between the home posts.

He tipped aside two efforts, while Grays hit the woodwork soon after.

Blues toiled for the decisive goal after the interval, with Dumaka and Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson probing for the opening.

But it wasn’t until time was almost up that Kacinkevicius, brilliant throughout, committed the foul and Dumaka tucked home the spot kick.
